This year marks a significant milestone in our industrial heritage − the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway. Join us in exploring the rich heritage of this hugely influential mode of transportation and how it enabled our industries and towns to flourish. The Ffestiniog, Talyllyn and Welsh Highland railways were rated by Which? in the top ten of Europe’s most picturesque railway lines.

These steam railways are just three of a dozen members of ‘Great Little Trains of Wales’ (GLTW). In this talk Jo Quinney, GLTW marketing manager, will discuss the member railways, their heritage and importance to tourism in Wales. She will be joined by a representative from the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways who will showcase their Boston Lodge engineering works project that interprets the story of the railway thereby helping thousands of visitors understand the area’s pioneering spirit, global impact and the effect the railway had on the local landscape and community. This recently completed project was supported by a £3.1 million grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Tickets are free (with optional donation) for members and £4 for non-members.
