The AGM will be held on Saturday 1st June 2024 at Hallé St Peter’s, Ancoats, Manchester.
Hallé St Peter’s is a Grade II listed former church at the heart of Ancoats, an area rich in important industrial heritage, which is currently the focus for regeneration and development.
Originally built in 1859, St. Peter’s was the first Anglican church built in the predominantly Roman Catholic community. The church was initially able to seat up to 1,336 people but alterations in the early 1900s reduced this capacity by c.300. A period of post-war decline saw the church finally close in 1960 and the building was turned to mixed use. It was listed in 1989 but subsequently suffered from vandalism. After eventual large scale restoration works, the building was reopened in 2013 and a multi-award-winning three-storey extension was added in 2019.
Please note: bags larger than A4 size are not permitted in the hall. There will be a rail available for coats.

GETTING THERE

By Public Transport: We strongly recommend using public transport to get to the AGM. Hallé St Peter’s is an approximately 16 minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Train Station, Piccadilly Gardens and Shudehill Bus Terminals and Metrolink stops and an 18 minute walk from Victoria Train Station.
By Car: On street parking is extremely limited. Numerous paid Car Parks are available, within a 10 minute walk from the venue.

REFRESHMENTS
To celebrate our centenary, we will enjoy a luxury afternoon tea following the AGM proceedings, charged at £36 per head and including sandwiches, savoury tarts, scones, afternoon tea fancies, fresh strawberries and cream, and tea/coffee. Prosecco will be served for the toasts. Please do let us know if you intend to come and would like refreshments included, so that we can plan accordingly. Please also advise of any dietary requirements.

Eamonn Canniffe
Eamonn Canniffe leads the MA Architecture + Urbanism at the Manchester School of Architecture. He was born in Manchester in 1960 and was educated in Architecture at Cambridge and Harvard Universities. In 1996 he held a Rome Scholarship in the Fine Arts at the British School at Rome. Between 1986 and 1998 he taught at the University of Manchester School of Architecture, and between 1998 and 2006 at the University of Sheffield School of Architecture.
He is the author of ‘Urban Ethic: Design in the Contemporary City’ (Routledge 2006) and ‘The Politics of the Piazza: the history and meaning of the Italian square’ (Ashgate 2008), which he presented at the De Bosis Colloquium in Italian Studies at Harvard University in 2009. He is co-author (with Tom Jefferies) of ‘Manchester Architecture Guide’ (1999) and (with Peter Blundell Jones) of ‘Modern Architecture through Case Studies 1945-1990’ (Architectural Press 2007).
Jonathan Schofield
Jonathan Schofield has been a registered Blue Badge Guide since 1996 and is the Editor-at-Large of Manchester Confidential, the city’s largest independent magazine. He is also the Editor of Manchester Books Limited and has written several books on the North West. He is a regular broadcaster on local and national radio.
He is also a public speaker, a town and city identity consultant and a freelance writer on tourism, architecture, public art, history and food and drink. His current publications, are: ’Manchester, the Complete Guide’; ‘Lost & Imagined Manchester’; ‘Illusion & Change Manchester’. In November 2021 Jonathan was awarded the University of Manchester Medal of Honour for ‘an exceptional contribution to the city, the region and the work of the University’.
