From 1993 to 2021 Historic Buildings & Places (then, the Ancient Monuments Society) worked in partnership with the Friends of Friendless Churches.
As HB&P celebrates its Centenary, and with so many years together, we are delighted to be welcoming Rachel Morley, Director of the Friends of Friendless Churches, for her talk.
Since 1957, the Friends of Friendless Churches have been working to protect, save and repair redundant but beautiful places of worship all across England and Wales. They were founded and run by the remarkable Ivor Bulmer-Thomas, who was the Chairman of the Ancient Monuments Society (AMS).
Rachel will talk about the origins of the FoFC, the partnership with HB&P, the current challenges facing places of worship and what the FoFC are doing to help deal with these issues.
Rachel became the Director of the Friends of Friendless Churches in 2018. She previously worked for the Churches Conservation Trust, and worked as stone and plaster conservator with Hirst Conservation.
Before moving to England, she read Process and Chemical Engineering, completed a postgraduate course in Building Conservation & Repair at Trinity College, Dublin.
She served as a Guardian and Trustee of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings for six years, is a judge for the John Betjeman Award for church conservation, an assessor for the Architect’s Accreditation in Building Conservation, and is on the casework committee for the Twentieth Century Society.
Tickets are free (with optional donation) for HB&P members and £4 for non-members.
Cancellation policy: Refunds can be provided for cancellations 7 or more business days prior to the event.
