We are saddened to hear of the death of Dame Jennifer Jenkins, a dominant figure in the life of the Society. She became Secretary 45 years ago and was made President in 1985.

She housed the society in her spare bedroom for a number of years and it was under her watch that the AMS was recognised as a National Amenity Society, becoming a Statutory Consultee for applications to demolish listed buildings in England and Wales.
She took a close interest in Conservation Areas and through her initiative the AMS commissioned a number of significant reports to encourage the designation of such Areas in some ten districts. She was one of the most influential figures in the conservation world and we shall miss her leadership and wise counsel.
