We congratulate Struan Bates on his winning entry for our 2023 Stephen Croad Prize.
Struan’s winning essay ‘Hamstead Marshall and Balthazar Gerbier: Notes Towards An English Proto-Baroque’ will be published in the 2024 Journal.
Struan recently completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural History at the University of Oxford, gaining a Distinction for his work that included a survey of Nicholas Stone’s Danby Gate at Oxford Botanic Garden.
After teaching in secondary schools, Struan worked as a digital producer for organisations including The Guardian and HarperCollins, before moving into consultancy.
Struan was presented his award on 6 December 2023 at our Annual Lecture, held at the Alan Baxter Gallery.
