Historic Buildings & Places is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Trustees to its Board, Martin Michette and John Robinson.
Martin Michette is a lecturer and researcher on the historic environment at the University of Oxford. His teaching covers the history of architectural conservation, vernacular construction and natural building materials.
His research focuses on reducing the environmental impact of buildings by identifying and promoting synergies between low energy technologies, cultural heritage and natural systems. Martin has also been involved in outreach and engagement activities at numerous heritage sites, including several UNESCO World Heritage sites, and has worked closely with stakeholders across the heritage sector.
Alongside his academic work, Martin directs Cultural Heritage Training Partnerships, Oxford’s programme of continuing professional development for the heritage and historic environment sectors.
As a Trustee, Martin will also take on the role of Chair of the Casework Committee, bringing his experience of the historic environment, sustainability, research and engagement to this important area of HB&P’s work.
John Robinson is an experienced accountant who has worked across both commercial and charitable organisations, including senior finance roles in London at Clifford Chance, Boston Consulting Group and Brunel University.
He has substantial governance experience, having served as a Trustee of AQA and the Higher Education Academy. He is currently Treasurer of Citizens Advice Westminster and Vice Chair of Highgate Cemetery.
John was particularly attracted to HB&P by its current review of purpose and strategy, including the Future Lab work, and the opportunity to help shape the organisation’s future direction. He brings experience in helping boards exercise effective financial oversight, monitor risk and make well-founded strategic decisions.
John will also join HB&P’s Finance Committee as part of his role as Trustee.
Sara Robertson, Chair of Trustees at Historic Buildings & Places, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Martin and John to the Board of Trustees. Between them they bring valuable expertise across the historic environment, sustainability, finance and governance, as well as fresh perspectives that will support our ongoing mission to champion historic buildings and places. We are very pleased that they are joining us at this exciting time for our organisation and we look forward to working with them.”
Martin and John join the Board at an important time for Historic Buildings & Places as the organisation continues to consider its future direction and how it can best serve the heritage sector.
