Situated in the Cambrian Mountains, the 12th Century Cistercian Abbey of Strata Florida and adjacent 17th Century Grade II and II* listed Mynachlog Fawr farm, are being brought to life by the Strata Florida Trust.
Carys Aldous-Hughes, Director, will present a timeline of this unique and iconic Welsh site, from its Iron Age landscape, tumultuous Medieval era, and the later stories of the Stedman and Arch families of Mynachlog Fawr, before discussing more recent development by the Trust. After purchasing the site in 2016, the Trust, an independent charity, has been in the process of converting the listed farm buildings to create the Strata Florida Centre, whilst running a range of courses, community and visitor engagement, and annual archaeology field school.
This talk will explore the successes and challenges of the project and discuss the next stages and long-term plans for the development of the site.
