  • 11:00am - 12:30pm

Join us for a private tour of St Mary’s Church and its beautiful and unique Library on Saturday 30th May 2026 at 11am.

Dating from around 1150, St Mary’s Church is the largest and most historic church in Langley. In the early 17th century, Sir John Kedermister enlarged and restored the church, adding the tower and bells, and creating the remarkable Kedermister Library. This small but extraordinary library remains an exceptional survival, housing many historic volumes – including an 11th-century illuminated manuscript Gospel of the Winchester school, currently on loan from the British Library.

During this visit, you’ll have the opportunity to explore both the church and the library. The tour will last around to 1.5 hours. The church visit is self-guided, with an information sheet provided to help you discover its fascinating features at your own pace. The Library will be explored as part of a fully guided tour, offering insight into its history, design, and remarkable collection.

Accessibility information

There are steep stone steps (approximately eight) leading from the church to the library, without a handrail. Entry to the Library includes a worn step from a pew, and lighting levels are low due to the building’s age and character. Unfortunately, this part of the tour may not be suitable for visitors with limited mobility.
