Martin is a lecturer and researcher on the historic environment at the University of Oxford. His teaching covers topics such as the history of architectural conservation, vernacular construction, and natural building materials. The focus of his research lies in reducing the environmental impact of buildings by identifying and promoting synergies between low energy technologies, cultural heritage, and natural systems. He has been involved in outreach and engagement activities at numerous heritage sites – including several on the UNESCO World Heritage list – and worked closely with stakeholders from a variety of different heritage organisations. He also directs the Cultural Heritage Training Partnerships, Oxford’s programme of CPD for the heritage and historic environment sectors.
