Historic Buildings & Places appoints a new Director

Posted: 15 December 2022

We are pleased to announce Liz Power has been appointed as the new Director of Historic Buildings & Places.

She joins Historic Buildings & Places not long after its adoption of a new Mission, Vision, and Values, and a new brand. She will be at the forefront of driving our work to sustain, defend and promote all aspects of the built environment, for the benefit of all.

Liz brings with her a wealth of experience, most recently as the Director of the London Museum of Water & Steam in Brentford, West London. There, she has been responsible for the 17 listed buildings on site, and developed a keen understanding of the challenges of working and caring for important landmarks, as well as the challenges of making such buildings work in the face of the climate emergency. She has also raised the profile of the charity within the Museum sector, and is looking forward to doing the same with Historic Buildings & Places within the wider heritage sector.

Giles Quarme, Chairman of Historic Buildings & Places, commented: “We are delighted to have secured a new Director with a fantastic range of experience in the broader heritage sector, and look forward to working closely with her as Historic Buildings & Places continues to grow and champion heritage in all its richness and diversity. It was clear from early on that Liz’s passion for historic buildings shines through, and that she can bring her expertise gained by developing the profile of the London Museum of Water & Steam for the benefit of our organisation.”

Liz said the post of Director would allow her to continue to explore her passion for the historic environment: “Having always had the pleasure of working in listed buildings, I’m excited about the opportunity to lead a charity dedicated to supporting and protecting all manner of buildings and places, and exploring how they can be better used for the benefit of communities”.

Liz will take up her new role in February 2023.
