25 areas in England have now been awarded a share of £3 million funding to produce local design codes.
The codes will set out requirements such as local street character, building type and layout, and use of public space, amongst other factors, for councils to consider when assessing new development. We hope this will improve the quality of new development within historic neighbourhoods and town centres.
