Join our team in Coventry for an architectural walking tour and a visit to the recently renovated Charterhouse.

Join us for an exciting outing to Coventry where we will start the day with a bespoke architectural walking tour, with Blue Badge Guide Verity Tiff, of the city centre, taking in a variety of sites, from the famous cathedral and guildhall to the unique 15th century timber-framed cottages on Priory Row.

We will also visit Coventry’s High Street Heritage Action Zone, which was the pilot for the national scheme.

After lunch*, we will head over to the newly restored Coventry Charterhouse for an exclusive talk from Conservation Architect David Mahony, who was part of the restoration project at the Charterhouse.

David is a Conservation Architect and Director at PCPT Architects based in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham.  He has an active interest in sketching, farming and travelling whilst as an architect – in addition to the heritage aspects – sustainability and the reuse of materials. David set up the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust and remains a director.

At Charterhouse David has worked with the community from the very start in 2014; first to save it for the city, then to assess its significances and attract funding and then through the construction stage.  As to the future at Charterhouse there are discoveries the team found that need to be interpreted, yet more to revealed including archaeology and recreations to better put across the life of these dedicated monks, how since the Reformation the buildings took to different uses and became what we now see.

Followed by the talk, attendees will have free time to explore and discover this important historic building, which reopened only this April.
