We will start at 12pm with a talk and tour of the First White Cloth Hall by Grant Prescott, conservation architect at Buttress who led a recent restoration project of the site.
The First White Cloth Hall is a Grade II* listed building and is one of the most significant historic buildings in Leeds city centre. Based on Kirkgate, Leeds’ oldest street, it was the first covered area to trade in cloth in Leeds and was instrumental in the development of the city’s textile trade. However, in 1999, it was placed on Historic England’s At Risk Register. Following the recent restoration, the building has now been removed from the Register.
At 1pm we will have a break. Attendees may decide to go out for lunch in Leeds, or enjoy lunch at the Royal Armouries.
Following this, we will meet at 2:15pm at the Royal Armouries Museum. We will enjoy a history tour of the Royal Armouries, the home of the UK’s national collection of arms and armour, led by Edward Impey, Director General and Master Emeritus, Royal Armouries and a HB&P Trustee.
We estimate the visit will end at 5pm.
